Why “Broken-Hearted Boldness?”
In this clip John Piper uses the term broken-hearted boldness to describe the ideal heart position of the Christian parent (full talk here). Broken-hearted because of knowledge and acceptance of one’s own great sin, and boldness because of unity with the Great Saviour. I think this mindset — this heart position — is, or should be, that of all followers of Jesus Christ. We are broken-hearted because of the foulness of our sin, and yet we are bold to approach the throne of grace because Jesus Christ, our Bridegroom, is not found wanting.
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea.
A great high Priest whose Name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands,
My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart.
